Native Hands Co-op is a project under the Catholic Charities of Gallup. The Cooperative provides new and innovative services designed to change a systemic problem of economic exploitation of Native American artisans living in Northwest New Mexico and Northeast Arizona. The  program is structured to serve the many local Native Americans who desire to increase their independence by developing their artistic, educational and entrepreneurial capabilities.

1.The project will assist Native American artists to establish a broader and more lucrative market for their goods and ultimately develop a successful small business operation capable of supporting themselves and their families.  Native Hands Coop will provide remedial educational programs, a mentor/ trainee program for artistic development, marketing,  Coop Retail Store, Gallery and Artist Studio.

2.The project will create social justice through its commitment to help Native American artists receive payment for their work that reflects its True Value: through its efforts to help artisans of different tribes and cultures to work together; through its intent to exclude no one from participation; through its hope to reduce racism by developing relationships among people of various back grounds.

Acknowledging that there are many reasons for or causes of poverty, the program provides services and referrals that increase opportunities and success for participants within the project. Workshops on pricing, silversmithing, business card development, sales techniques and other topics are available to all Native Hands Co-op members through a scheduled curriculum.  Computers are available for financial management and marketing training.
